Everything went well at the Dr. Appt - just a standard checkup. The dr. says Alexia has a strong heart beat - 150 beats per minute.
I feel Alexia moving around and kicking several times through out the day (I especially notice it when I'm sitting or lying down). I told the doctor that most of the movement I feel is in my lower abdomen/upper pelvic region and I asked if that means her feet are pointed down and if so is that ok since it's still so early in the pregnancy. She informed me that it may not be kicks that I'm feeling, that in fact Alexia might be head-butting me! I get a huge kick out of that, especially because when I first met Mike, Kathryn was 7 and she would joke around and head-butt him all the time. Sounds like Alexia might take after her sister! :)

Next Dr. appt's
My next standard prenatal appointment is on 9/22/2010 (22 weeks) and then I have another ultra sound scheduled for 9/29/2010 (23 weeks). I guess there was some stuff they wanted to see at the last ultra sound appointment that they weren't able to do, due to the age and position of the baby, so they asked me to come back in. I'm excited, another ultra sound means more pictures! When I get them I will post them for you to view.
September 10th, 2010 - 20 weeks - First Kicks!
I felt her kicking for the first time this week! Up until now I had just felt little bubbles that could have been gas or could have been her moving. But this was different and I now know it is her moving around and kicking!
The first time it felt like a little twitch just below my lower right ribs. I thought, that's weird, and didn't think anything more of it. The next day, I felt the same thing, but this time in my lower left abdomen. I thought, wow, that was the same feeling I felt yesterday, and I've never felt it before, I wonder if that is what it feels like when she kicks. It has begun to happen more frequently since then and I'm am positive now that it is most definitely her kicking. I always wanted to have a baby someday, but before I became pregnant, I always thought that the idea of having another living being growing and moving inside of you was kind of creepy; Now that I am pregnant and it's happening to me I've done a total 180 and it feels like the most wonderful, most incredible, magical thing ever! It's not weird or creepy at all. It's great! I love her so much already and I make sure to tell her everyday!
The other day the most surprising thing happened - she kicked me several times in the same spot (around the lower right abdomen) and she literally made me laugh out loud. She was tickling me from the inside! I always knew I was ticklish, but never realized I was that ticklish. So, I started talking to her and then singing to her and she seemed to calm down (at least I couldn't feel it anymore). So, ever since then, if I feel her moving around a lot, I sing to her and rub my belly and it truly seems to calm her down. Now, it might just be a coincidence, but I like to think it soothes her.
Also, now that she's kicking I have convinced Mike to talk to her (he felt silly about it before, but I guess after finding out it's a girl and seeing the super clear ultra sounds and now hearing me talk about her kicking and hearing me talk to her, he's starting to feel comfortable doing the same). So we tell her good morning and good night everyday and some other stuff here and there. He doesn't talk to her nearly as much as I do, but then again, he's not with her all day long like I am :)

September 5th, 2010 - Our New Apartment
By this point, we were all moved out of our old apartment, and moved into our new apartment. We got about 75% unpacked and about 75% of the cleaning done at the old place. We are so happy to be settling into our new 2 bedroom apartment and are excited to start collecting baby things and getting the Nursery ready. My mom bought the crib back in July, so now we finally have a place to set it up!
September 1, 2010 - 19 weeks - 4th Ultra Sound - It's a Girl!
By the time this appointment came around I felt like it had been forever since my last doctor appointment and even longer since my last ultra sound. I wanted to see my baby and make sure it was safe and sound (and to find out if it's a boy or a girl!) Also, I was so happy that my mom and sister had joined Mike and I at this appointment so that they could see the ultra sound first hand. (It's so much easier to figure out what your looking at when you are watching it live, rather than seeing the freeze frames and I was glad they were there to experience that).
So the doctor took a ton of images and gave me several on a disk and then told us that we were having a baby girl! I didn't see Mike's reaction, because I was too busy looking at the screen in wonder, but the technician said that Mike's facial expression was priceless and sweet. It sounded like his face was a combination of surprise, awe and happiness!
Though we did receive several images, most of them are not easy to read, so here are the two clearest pic's.
This first one shows a view of the whole body (and you can clearly see the head and eyes - on your left)
The second one shows a close up view of the face and upper body. Her face is on your left and you can see her left eye, and it kind of looks like her right arm is covering the right part of her face and nose. You can also clearly make out her right shoulder. (Hope I described it in a way that is understandable.)
Anyway, these of course, were the best pictures to date and made it again, that much more real!

August 17, 2010 - Found a new apartment
Mike started talking about the need to move into a 2 bedroom apartment back in June, around the time we found out we were pregnant. I had told him that I thought if I got rid of enough stuff we could stay in our one bedroom for at least a few months after the baby was born. But Mike said, 1. I would never get rid of enough stuff to make room for all the baby stuff and 2. he did not want to have to deal with moving with a baby and recovering wife. (In hind-sight I'm so glad he had the fore-thought and that I let him get his way this time because he is right, I'm so glad to be moved, unpacked and... oh well, I'm getting ahead of myself.)
So, he started his search and we looked at a lot of apartments and finally found the right apartment at the right price. We turned in our 30 day notice on 8/17/2010 and can begin moving into our new place on 9/1/2010.
Coincidentally, that is also the date of our next sonogram and when we get to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl (hopefully, assuming the baby cooperates and is positioned correctly. We were keeping our fingers crossed that the baby's legs weren't crossed. lol)

Mid-August 2010 - Around 16 weeks - Dr. Appt
By this point my morning sickness was pretty much gone, and the food aversion I had been experiencing was starting to go away too.
I had a standard Doctor Appointment sometime around the 15th of August and got to hear the baby's heart beat for the first time! It was truly amazing! Every time I've gone to the doctor I have gotten to see something new that makes this baby feel more and more real to me. The rest of the time it can feel pretty surreal, but then I go to the doctor and it's like, "oh yeah, it's real. I have this little life growing inside of me and relying on me to keep it safe and healthy." It's a bit overwhelming but so worth it!
